LABOUR MARKET ORGANIZATIONS

The vast majority of employees is represented by Greenlandic organizations. The largest is SIK (Sulinermik Inuussutissarsiutillit Kattuffiat).

In recent years, other professions have obtained independent negotiation rights, e.g.:

· Nursery and kindergarten teachers, unionized in PIP (Perorsaasut Ilinniarsimasut Peqatigiiffiat). Read more about PIP at www.pip.gl

· Telecommunication professionals, unionized in Radiotelegrafist Foreningen af 1917 (Attaveqaat) (no website).

Persons recruited from Denmark or having graduated from an educational institution in Denmark are typically represented by Danish unions.

Negotiation rights for public servants are handled by four organizations:

Among the employers, the employers in the public sector under the Government of Greenland dominate. The coordination of the interests of the public employers is handled via a consulting agreement.

In the private sector, there are several employer organisations, the most important being The Employer Organization of Greenland, GA.

· The Association of Fishermen and Hunters in Greenland, Kalaallit Nunaanni Aalisartut Piniartullu Kattuffiat (KNAPK), is a union for cutter owners, dinghy fishermen and hunters. Read more about KNAPK at www.knapk.gl
